From Seikenshi Adrian Starr, 4th Dan

'Since the dissolution of my art in this country, through greed, in 2009 I've been a stand alone club.

For 17 years I have attended seminars and meetings and met people I liked and respected....and some with no talent, just ego. I am now a member of the World Alliance of Martial Arts - a non politics or egos organisation that I am happy in. They awarded and ranked me as a 6th Dan Chief Instructor of my art, but I'm really just a Seikenshi 4th Dan in Shōrinji Kenpō.

During my travels I met these 5 instructors, they amongst others, are a dream team. I reckon that I probably know about 12 instructors who are utterly technically exceptional - here I get the chance to present 5 of them to you, for a weekend of exceptional learning, and some laughs and giggles, at a reasonable price.

The attendee register is now open, book your place to guarantee it.

So here they are - your instructors for our September seminar. Every single one of them a nice human.'

The Gathering & 50 years training celebration

Saturday 25th April 2026, saw us hosting the annual Gathering of martial arts masters from all over the UK, as well as celebrate Tony sensei's 50th year of training in martial arts.

Instructors from Karate, Judo, Shōrinji Kenpō, Tai Chi, Ju Jutsu and more, fostering that Japanese concept of Jita Kyoei - mutual prosperity for self and others. Additionally, students of Basingstoke Ju Jutsu Club raised funds to make a presentation of a kabuto and sōmen to Tony sensei, to celebrate 50 years of training, and Hanshi Robbie Woodard, 9th Dan, gave a presentation to note that the grading committee had awarded Tony sensei with his 8th Dan, and Hanshi title for all the work done over the years to support and lead martial arts for his students and others around the country. A heavy weight and responsibility, accepted with humility and grateful honour.

The Gathering

The Gathering happens in several places around the UK; Liverpool, Peterborough, Coventry, Leicester, Welwyn Garden City & Basingstoke.

The Gatherings celebrate our good friends, the late GM Brian Jones and Anthony Pillage. We decided to keep the seminars going to both celebrate them and to continue to share knowledge with martial artists all over the country.

These seminars are taught by a collection of the highest graded instructors in the country, from Karate, Ju Jutsu, Tai Chi, Escrima & Kali, pressure points, several of whom are world champions or world leaders in their arts.

The Gathering 2026 Basingstoke, is an event not to be missed as we also celebrate Tony sensei's 50 years of martial training.

JapanFest

This event is a celebration of all things Japanese -

Martial arts, cosplay, origami, music, clothing, food, manga, anime, art......

Demonstrations, short classes and vendor stalls as well as cosplay competitions and more!

Links will be uploaded when details have been finalised and tickets go on sale.

Club 30 Year Celebration
We hosted an open seminar on Saturday 27th April 2024 to celebrate 30 years of Basingstoke Ju Jutsu Club and Mizu Ryu Ju Jutsu.

Students and teachers, past and present, on and off the mat, were in attendance to train together with some wonderful friends we've made over the years. People coming from different clubs and styles in Basingstoke, Woking, Portsmouth, Cambridge, Birmingham, Coventry, Peterborough and even Liverpool made it such a special day. A fantastic seminar, with all the instructors being thanked with a Jamaican lunch at the end, before a lovely Turkish meal in town together afterwards.

I've been lucky enough to have made some fantastic friends over the years within Martial Arts, and these have enhanced both my personal life as well as my training life. As a result, I've been in the position to share what we teach here in Basingstoke on a National scale and due to the way our syllabus has been successfully received, I regularly teach at public and private seminars and expos all over the UK as well as abroad.

My personal highlights were being allowed to teach at the Kodokan, Tokyo in 2001 & demonstrations I organised for some Japanese festivals at Earl's Court, Kensington Olympia and the O2 Arena. I'm really pleased that 2022 will see us doing a demo & teaching session at MCM Comicon @The Excel Centre - Tony, Sensei.
