Helping those in need, directly
It is a seriously sad and shocking fact that 1 in 5 people in the UK today, are living in poverty. In addition, many people are having to change their bias on those in poverty as they too, become part of the ever growing number of people who are unable to meet basic needs.
Full-time working families are among those who use foodbanks on a regular basis, including professionals such as nursing staff, simply because their wages cannot meet the ever increasing cost of food and energy bills. All this, was before the current 'Cost of living crisis' was officially announced.
Trussell Trust is an organisation which collects and distributes food donations to families all over the UK. There are other such organisations, yet Trussell Trust alone, distributed 2.5 million food parcels last year.
We at Basingstoke Ju Jutsu Club regularly support Trussell Trust and our members donate whatever they can afford in terms of food, money or time in volunteering.
Christmas Hampers
Food donations are needed all year round, but for the festive period, they take on an extra significance
The trust produced lists for the types of donations used to fill small, medium & large Christmas Hampers.
The instructors collect any donations from club members and put together these special hampers to donate to the Trust. They distribute the hampers locally and together, we have all helped to make things a little easier for individuals and families across our region over Christmas.
Making a real difference
Martial Arts, as well as training the individual, is also about being of service to the community. In helping the trust by donating either food or time in volunteering, we can help the community, directly, without unnecessarily lining the pockets of charity shareholders who take profits out of monetary donations.
